The CanSkate session is broken down the following way:

  • 5 minutes Stroking and Warm Up
  • 30 minutes with Main Instructor
  • 10 minutes with Secondary Instructor
  • 5 minutes Cool down / Games

CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory for all CanSkaters up to and including Stage 5.

CanPower Skate

CanPower Skate focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance skills, all of which are especially important for hockey and ringette players. These session are designed for those children who can already skate forwards, backwards and stop. In these classes the skaters develop better balance, power, agility, speed and endurance, using edges, crossovers, lateral moves, pivot turns, and fast forward/backward starts.

BSC Power Skating program is a technique based training program. The purpose is to teach players to skate faster not only without a puck but with a puck as well. The most important skill of any hockey player is the ability to skate efficiently and powerfully, our focus starts here. The ultimate goal is to have each player executing drills as quickly with the puck as without. We emphasize the mechanics of skating.

Participants should wear full hockey equipment that is CSA approved.
CanPower program is only offered during spring sessions

Intro to Synchro

This program will introduce skaters to the fundamental basic synchronized skating maneuvers, formations, and transitions in a social team atmosphere. It will be instructed by a synchronized skating coach aided by synchronized skaters.  Skater must have completed CanSkate Stage 5 in order to participate.

Adult Skate

This program introduces adults to an active living lifestyle through progressive skating skills development under the guidance of a certified professional in a FUN group lesson format. The program is flexible enough to accommodate the various proficiency levels and goals of individual skaters. Adults participate in CanSkate, STARSkate and CanPowerSkate programs as well as on synchronized skating teams. Adult championships currently provide opportunities to adult skaters to experience the challenge of a competition in a fun, social environment.
